About Klip-Nordic

Klip-Nordic a joint Nordic association for parents of children placed into care, their children and supporters of their cause. The name "klip" is the same as the Norwegian and Swedish word "klipp". It means to "cut" and it refers to the feeling of having close family  connections cut off or feeling cut out of our children's lives.

Background

There are strange and irrational policies in the field of child protection, especially in Norway and Denmark. Children are removed from their parents on a flimsy basis and when children are removed, the placement is often handled in a way which intentionally breaks down the relationship between the child and the parents. We see the removal of children being used as a means of power against people who have different opinions or behaviours. We see authorities, institutions and foster families work to create a "clean break" between the child and its biological family instead of supporting this bond. We see a tendency for the authorities to further problems rather than solve them. We see that people who have had their children forcibly removed are subjected to social stigma. Klip-Nordic focuses on these issues. It is Klip-Nordic's stated purpose to work against unnecessary division, to support the right to family life and to support the possibility that parents can take an active part in their children's lives.

The Initiativ Bank

Almost all of Klip-Nordic's work is organized through member initiatives and these initiatives are gathered in The Initiative Bank. The initiative bank is the backbone of Klip-Nordic's work.

One can think of Klip-Nordic as a building block. A building block with three sections.

The three sections are the association's three key principles (read more about them in the section below). This building block can be used by members to build their own projects.

Someone might want to create networking opportunities and conversation groups or organize a demonstration. Another might wish to influence politicians or create a knowledge bank which helps other parents through the maze of the child protection system and so on. It is the members' ideas, hopes, dreams and initiatives that form Klip-Nordic's activities.

The member initiatives can be at the idea stage or they can be fully developed ongoing projects. It can be small local activities or it can be major joint Nordic initiatives. All initiatives are presented in Klip-Nordic's Initiative Bank. As a member you can visit The Initiative Bank and see if there are any initiatives that you would like to participate in. You can also start new initiatives yourself. You can do this by writing or calling Klips-Nordic and presenting your ideas.

The Three Key Principles of The Association

The association organises its activities around three key principles

The principles are:

To counter separation and work towards unification

The first area is that which immediately lies closest to the heart of the association. It's about counteracting separation. There is so much unnecessary separation used in the child protection system. Klip-Nordic wants to counteract this and work towards healing and unity.

To Follow The Human Rights

In the practical interpretation of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR), one can see that there is talk of the child's right to continuous contact with his biological parents and other biological family members. It is said that breaches of this contact are regarded as interventions in both the child's and parents' right to family life. In addition, it is stated that placements in care are temporary measures which should be terminated as soon as circumstances permit. Klip-Nordic is working to ensure that the Nordic countries follow the instructions of the ECHR.

That the parents are given the opportunity to actively participate in their children's lives

In the current approach, much is being done to sideline the parents and much is done to prevent the parents' negative attitude to the placement from affecting the child. This is in most cases both unreasonable and unnecessary. Instead, one should think about how the parents' resources can best contribute to the child's life during the placement. Klip-Nordic believes that there should be inspiration for this in WHO efforts on rehabilitation in the health field.

Become A Member

Managing capital in an association is both expensive and labor intensive. In Klip-Nordic, we want an association that is primarily driven by the members' desire and commitment. Therefore, we have initially chosen a solution where the association is completely non-monetary. This means that the association has no capital. It therefore does not cost any money to be a member. There are two types of membership - Global membership and Local membership

NB: All types of registration work via a sent e-mail to be confirmed. This email usually lands in the inbox called "Updates" so if you can't find it then look there or in "Promotion" or "Spam".

Global membership: As a Gobalt member, you are a member of the joint Nordic movement.  You have full right to participate in association initiatives.

To become a Global member of the joint Nordic association Klip-Nordic, you can use our online registration procedure here (the online procedure is in English)

You can also do this by writing to: klipnordic-request@freelists.org with 'subscribe' in the subject field.  You will then receive an email to confirm.

Local membership:  Membership of the local association of the country in which you live. Here you have the full right to participate in initiatives and activities. At the same time there is the possibility to be part of the organizational processes in the association.  In order to obtain Local membership you´'ll need to go to the page of the country you live in and follow the procedure provided there. You can find links to the different pages at the top of this page.

If the registration is teasing then contact us via our email, phone or on social media and we will help.
